Copyright © Mike Valentine –   Peeling Paint – Not sure why any time I see cracked or peeling paint, my eye is immediately drawn to it. This was a street light utility box, painted two shades of blue in two layers, which I was walking past near a crosswalk. After shooting, I realized how much it looked like a group of islands on a map – with deeper blue representing deep water and the lighter shade looking like it represented islands. I named it Map of Peelonesia after layering on a grid from the SKRWT app and a couple of nautical symbols from the Over App for Iphone. I could leave it without the extra elements – but with them, it more fully expresses what I see.
